The Temple Sinai Oys: A Junior Youth Group Extraordinaire

The Oys Junior Youth group is Temple Sinai’s newest phenomenon. We welcome kids entering grades three through seven, but we do allow exceptions. We have had children as young as 4 years old participate in some of our activities. As a youth group, we go on outings throughout the year; some benefit the community and some are just for fun. 2007-2008 was our first year in operation. We have done extremely well, and everyone involved has been pleased. The group’s adult advisor is Jill Hamilton.

Our events this year included a Dinner/Movie night, a family fun center trip, a board game day, a bowling trip, and a tour of Cold Stone Creamery with Temple Beth El’s youth group. We took a trip to Build-a-Bear, where we made bears to donate to foster children. We also participated in the all of the Temple Education Committee decorating activities, and set tables for the Chanukah Seder. We also worked around temple including helping in the Tzedakah Garden. All activities are planned and run by the kids (with assistance from parents when necessary). We are planning at least one event for the summer and it’s bound to be great.
