Dr. Sherry Israel, a social psychologist, retired in 2007 after 16 years as an Associate Professor at the Hornstein Program at Brandeis University. She has published in a variety of publications, on topics including group dynamics, Jewish demography, Jewish identity, and Jewish communal organizations. Two articles that are particularly relevant to her participation in this Convention are "American Jewish Public Activity -- Identity, Demography, and the Institutional Challenge", which appeared in Jerusalem Letter/Viewpoints in 2001 and "Ethnicity, Geography, and Jewish Community", which appeared in The Reconstructionist, 60:1, Spring 1995. She currently consults for a variety of Jewish institutions, especially around creating a Jewish community that is inclusive, welcoming, affordable, and committed to collaboration, and she puts these values into practice as chair of the National Havurah Committee.
